We're Heading for You, Virginia...

I touched-down in the motherland yesterday afternoon, met up with my dear friends Emily and James in Ohio, and am hitting the road and heading to Virginia with James in just a few moments. I'm looking forward to a weekend of making music and playing shows with the awesome fellas above. Check out the Shows Page to find out where all we'll be playing in the Hampton Roads area.

The song below by my friends in Big Virginia Sky is one of my favorites.

See you soon, Virginia!

On the Radio...

I'm excited to say that I'll be on the radio this evening! That's right, I'll be a guest tonight on CJSF's Melodies in Mind at 8:00 pm Pacific Standard Time. For those of you not in the Vancouver region, fret not, you can listen in online at CJSF 90.1 FM. I'm looking forward to sharing a few new tunes.

I've posted the Regina Spektor song below before, but it feels appropriate yet again.

Hope you tune in.

Music Heals: Modo 8K

March is here and I have a slew of shows lined up this month starting with a radio appearance on CJSF 90.1 FM Melodies in Mind next Tuesday the 8th, a tour with James Adkins in Virginia the 9th-15th, and a show with the lovely Rowen and Kristina Lao at Skinny Fat Jacks on the 19th.

In addition to playing shows, this month I am teaming up with Music Heals to run the Modo 8k. Music Heals is a group of music enthusiasts, music lovers, and music therapists who have come together to help raise awareness of the healing powers of music. Music Heals supports a wide range of music therapy services to communities in British Columbia and across Canada.

For the Modo 8K, Music Heals has chosen to run and raise funds for the music therapy program at the Dr. Peter Centre, in Vancouver's West End. The only one of its kind in Canada, the Dr. Peter Centre is a leader in HIV care, particularly for individuals with multiple medical conditions and social barriers. I love the idea of running races to raise money and awareness for good causes. What I think is super awesome is that Music Heals will not be taking any admin fees off of donations, so 100% of the money raised will be donated! This cause is dear to me and I appreciate any and all the support given. Every little bit helps. Thanks a million :)

If you'd like to donate, please visit the pledge page.

My beautiful friend Lydia Hol is the one who introduced me to the wonderful folks at Music Heals. She recently released a new album that is simply spectacular.

Science Faction...

One of my favorite things about my job is the opportunity to meet and collaborate with a variety of scientists from around the globe. I recently met fellow PhD student Dalal Hanna, host and writer for the 2015 miniseries podcast Science Faction. Science Faction is a show about unbelievable discoveries, told with the 1000 most used words and a few little exceptions. Being a huge fan of RadioLab, I instantly took to Science Faction. Science explained in everyday terminology. It is simply brilliant.

In that same vein, my lab-mate Stephanie recently introduced me to the band below. So much fun knowledge being passed around. Breathe Owl Breathe. Good ol' Michiganders.

See You in Virginia...

I awoke the other morning to this little note on my fridge (thanks, Brett). Two weeks from today I will fly across the continent to meet up with my good friends Emily and James Adkins before driving onward to the great state of Virginia for a weekend of shows. James and I will be playing the following dates in Virginia:

Friday, 3/11 - Slover Library, 12:00 pm  - 2:00 pm

Friday, 3/11 - Back Bay Brewing, 8:30 pm - 11:30 pm

Saturday, 3/12 - Smartmouth Brewing Co, 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Sunday, 3/13 - Pappa Ciccio's, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Tuesday, 3/15 - Electroganic w/ Logan Vath and Dale Paul Lazar, 8:30 pm

I am so very excited for all of these shows and am especially excited to finally meet and play a show with the fella in the video below. It's been a long time coming, my distant friends.

See you in Virginia.
