I have to admit that I've been very much looking forward to writing this post. Like I said last year, it's a funny thing writing something for ones own birthday. That being said, I thoroughly enjoy this exercise as a way to reflect on all that has been accomplished in the past year and also as a way to look ahead to all of the goals, plans, and surprises that 26 will hold.
I mentioned last year that there were many changes on the horizon and that I couldn't wait to see how life would unfold. My expectations were exceeded many times over. 25 was an age of new things; I released a new album, was accepted to a PhD program, became an aunt, went on a nearly 4000 mile road trip exploring the United States, and moved across the continent to a new house in a new city located in a new country. It's hard to believe that only three months ago yesterday Nicole and I crossed the border into Canada.
As I sit here staring out my living room window at the sun as it tries to peak through the gray clouds that Vancouver knows all too well, I'm so thankful for everyone and everything that made 25 so special. These last few months in Canada have been quite an adjustment, but I finally feel like I'm finding my own stride here in the city. I can't wait to greet the new people, projects, adventures, relationships, and reunions that 26 will hold. I'm continuously reminded of how incredibly blessed I am. I am beyond excited to discover all that this next year of life holds.
And as a way of saying happy birthday from me to you, I am sharing today a never before released recording of Fell Apart from a rehearsal with my awesome band (Ayla, Ashley, and Billy) just nights before the album launch party in August. Oh, I can't wait to jam again with these folks. Soon, soon enough! I do hope you enjoy this sneak-peak into one of our alway-quirky and alway-fun rehearsal sessions.
Now, if you'll excuse me I have to go call Mema and wish her a happy birthday. She's always been my most favorite of birthday buddies. I'm happy to share this day with her.
Alright 26, let's show em' what we've got. Enjoy!
